Day 10- Hollywood and UCLA

Day 10: Hollywood and UCLA

Hi again, it’s us, the Sleepy’s! We’re so excited to tell you about our adventures in LA.

Our day started off sleeping in until 6:30am, and hopping on the bus to head to the big city of Los Angeles. We ate delicious bagels with blueberry cream cheese and oranges for breakfast on the bus to our destination.

When we arrived at the Griffith Observatory, the first words out of all of our mouths were wow! It was such a beautiful view of the city and the Hollywood sign. While we were there, we had an amazing opportunity to meet Elizabeth, who works there, and she is the executive fundraising director of the observatory. She told us all about the history and fun facts about the observatory, like how La La Land was filmed there.

We got to see the famous Hollywood Stars today. We got to see Bruce Lee, Michael Jackson, and Marilyn Monroe’s handprints. While I was observing, a very famous person (Ashton Woodruff) appeared, and the crowd went wild! Ashton signed countless autographs and pictures for being in “season 23 of Grey’s Anatomy.” We enjoyed seeing how the people would believe a famous celebrity was walking Hollywood Blvd.

Right after making a lot of noise, we stepped foot in the famous LaLa Land gift shop. There were so many different things to choose from, like various t-shirts, Oscar awards and even stuff for the World Cup.

We then all traveled to the UCLA campus, which was literally right down the street. Once on the campus, we set up a spot in order to eat lunch. We ate chicken wraps with cookies, carrots, and chips. This was a much-needed meal before exploring the giant UCLA school store. Most of us bought t-shirts or sweatshirts from the long list of merchandise.

We arrived at the campsite with a beautiful view of the lake. Everyone hustled to their jobs, and the cooks arrived later after going to Walmart for dinner supplies. We are in close quarters setting up our sleeping bags and camping gear for a nice cool night, and we became excited for our sing-along. The big time difference has made it difficult to call everyone back home, but no matter how long we get, those 5 minutes mean a lot. We saw a very cool plane going over the beautiful lake.

Our Bashfuls cooked up an outstanding meal of grilled cheese, chicken noodle soup, and green beans. We ate this meal looking over the breathtaking mountain and lake view. Even though they forgot the bowls, we were so grateful for an amazing sit-down meal after driving for 3 hours!

Grant hitchhiked just in time to lead our sing-along, a fan favorite activity once we arrived at our campsite. We noticed a family with four younger kids watched our group so we invited them to join us for our last few songs. After singing so beautifully (completely off key) to some new songs, we ended with our usual, “Today” by John Denver. We had so much fun, and we cannot wait for the next one!

We are so excited for the adventures that the next day has in store! With soooooo much love - The Sleepys zzzzzz… Sam, Tyler, Kat, Ava Reece, Caroline, Sophie, Bailey, Jonathan, Landon, Reagan, Riley McNair, Alyssa, and Hadley!
