Day 11- Highway 1

DAY 11: HIGHWAY 1

We woke up early in the morning to a lakeside view, and quickly hopped in the bus. A little into our drive we popped open some muffins for breakfast.

We all were so excited to go to Walmart after not being there for like three days. While at Walmart we picked up meals and different necessities.

We drove across Highway 1 which was one of the best scenic drives that we have seen throughout this entire trip. It took around 6 hours to get across the rocky terrain that had a crazy view of the pacific on the left and gigantic mountains to the right. Along with the view, we all had some very deep conversations and we can all agree that today brought us a lot closer together.

After a long 2 hours we stopped at this beautiful rest stop. They had chairs to listen to the ocean for hours. We all saw this art sculpture that was a scenery finder, and we all took some sick pictures with it. Safe to say we all have an amazing memory from this stop and an amazing picture for Instagram.

After 20 ish minutes on the road looking out the windows at the beautiful scenery we arrived at our special look out spot. When we arrived we set up tarps and got out the song books and sang This Land. After that Grant told us some stories about the spot and the back story behind it. After he told us those stories he offered us to share ours. No one was forced to go up but we all felt safe enough too. Many of us shared stories either about our home life, our first few days here, or how we have grown as a family. A lot of these stories were definitely tear jerkers and even more brought us closer as a family. After the stories we hugged each other and took some more photos before we headed back to the bus to head to our next stop.

After a few more hours of driving, we arrived in Monterey California, a quaint little ocean town, also home to Pebble Beach Golf Course where many of us spend too much money. While we only had a short amount of time here because of the traffic we hit on the way, we all had a great time! Tyler gave his presentation before we were set loose for around 30 minutes to explore the town. We walked around souvenir shops, general stores, ice cream shops, and the Pebble Beach Outlet, before getting back on the bus for the drive to San Francisco.

We made it into the foggy San Fran around 7:30 and had a brief meeting along with meeting the owner of the Waller Center and her sweet dog, Henrietta. After our meeting about sleeping arrangements and the plan for tomorrow, we set up camp. Boys were downstairs in the bunk room while girls were upstairs in the gym. The best group, The Sleepys, then blogged, while other groups did their jobs of unpacking and cleaning the bus. We set up our sleeping bags and went to sleep, in anticipation for San Francisco tomorrow!

And now that our laundry is ready to be washed tomorrow, we are headed to bed. Good night from the Sleepies, zzzzz….. Sam, Tyler, Kat, Ava Reece, Caroline, Sophie, Bailey, Jonathan, Landon, Reagan, Riley McNair, Alyssa, and Hadley!
